Webmasters Opinion
It is my opinion that these dogs are of an exceptional nature. I started training dogs when I was about 10 years old, and have been training
for over 30 years. My dad trained bird dogs, and is where I picked up many techniques. Then I recieved my first dalmatian about 25 years ago.
An absolute gift from God, but I knew instantly that this dog had some "quirks?". After spending 16 years with our first, 8 years with our second,
and training others, I have come to some conclusions.
1) This dog is not for everybody!
2) You really need to have the same dedication toward the dog as the dog has toward you!
3) Special care and handling are in order.
4) If you do the above, you will have the most incredible relationship with an incredibly intelligent dog as anyone can have!
Everything about a dalmatian is different...right down to the food you feed them. Most people improperly feed their dals. The dalmatian has a
unique digestive system which does not allow high protien levels, and must be monitored by analysing the ingredients of the food
you buy. It was discovered in 1916 that dalmatians possess a unique metabolism. Dalmatians handle purines, the parent substance for the uric acid compounds found in certain meat and vegetable proteins, more like humans and primates than like dogs. They will not thrive on diets high in purines, and some will develop serious, life-threatening health problems or die prematurely as a result of such diets. There is a book written by Patti and Rod Strand ISBN 0-87605-384-3 and can be found at http://www.altbookstore.com which covers all of the owner related diet problems. The book is "THE dalmatian AN OWNER'S GUIDE TO A HAPPY HEALTHY PET" published by Howell Book House (A Simon & Schuster Macmillan Company)
This page will grow. This is a start for this new site. Please come back often. I have given links to what I think are the best dalmatian
sites on the internet.
Have fun with your dal!!!
